My story
Astrid Gornés is a writer, journalist and Human Resources professional with an outstanding career in renowned companies in the United States, including multinational sports companies. Her experience in these organizations has given her a broad and multidisciplinary vision that nourishes her literary work, providing depth and nuance to her stories.
A citizen of the world, she has called cities as diverse as London, UK; Panama City, Panama; Caracas, Venezuela and Columbus, Ohio, USA home. These destinations, along with her passion for the paranormal and the mysterious, have shaped a narrative that masterfully explores the human duality between light and darkness.
For more than ten years, Astrid pursued her dream of becoming a music star, developing her love for singing and facing the challenges that this quest entails. It was on this path that she discovered, almost as an act of therapy, her other great talent: writing. Literary creation became her refuge and a new form of expression, allowing her to explore stories and characters that resonated with her own inner voice.
Her debut novel, Una noche en el Distrito Rojo , is a collection of horror and dark fantasy stories inspired by Christian mythology and social themes such as the role of women and the struggles of minorities. This book received an Honorable Mention in the Best Horror Fiction and Best Fantasy Novel categories at the prestigious International Latino Book Awards (ILBA), consolidating Astrid as a relevant voice in contemporary fantasy literature in Spanish.
Inspired by authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, HP Lovecraft, Mary Shelley and Neil Gaiman, Astrid combines the symbolism of the macabre with profound reflections on the human condition, transporting her readers to universes where the supernatural and the real intertwine in disturbing and sublime ways.
Astrid works full-time in the Human Resources department in the United States. However, her true passion leads her to dedicate her free time to writing, where she displays all her talent and creativity. Committed to expanding the boundaries of fantasy and horror, Astrid continues to offer innovative stories that challenge the mind and spirit, consolidating her place as an essential voice in contemporary literature in Spanish.
